Consults Consultations

What happens at a consultation?
At Women’s Health, Naturally I take your health very seriously. You will be given the most comprehensive health and nutritional
assessment you have ever experienced!

I treat the whole person, rather than only treating a disease or its symptoms. At your first 60 minute consultation I will take a very thorough history, asking about your diet, lifestyle, stress, and environmental exposures.

My aim is to help you maintain a balanced state of good health long term. This means I consider a variety of factors before I diagnose an illness. I will look at what’s happening in your whole life before developing a treatment plan.

While firmly science-based, modern naturopathic medicine also preserves the centuries-old wisdom of successful natural therapies.

I will take the time to listen and to get to know you as a whole person. As a partner in your own health care, you will play an integral role in making decisions about your treatment. Preliminary tests will be performed and we will discuss your health goals. This will allow me to give you a report of the findings and develop the most effective treatment plan for you.

Consultation process
I typically work through three phases in my naturopathic treatment to have you feeling better than you may possibly be able to imagine right now:

The initial stage – where I begin to deeply understand you and your health, reducing your most acute symptoms and putting the plan in place to stabilise your condition.

Maintenance and supportive treatment – where I focus on treating the underlying cause of your condition. While your symptoms may have lessened, the objective is to make sure I eliminate the cause of your symptoms so they are gone forever!

Treatment for Wellness – once I have successfully eliminated your complaint and are able to offer you improved levels of health and well-being. You will return for three monthly check ups and follow up testing to ensure prevention of disease and your long term health and wellbeing.

First steps
When you first make contact we will discuss your appointment details. Once you have scheduled your appointment, you will be emailed/posted a New Patient Pack containing detailed questionnaires to complete before your first session. These will cover your full health picture and provide much valuable information for me during your sessions.

We will then have three important introductory appointments.
Here’s how they work.

Initial appointment – Understanding You and Your Health: 60 minutes
Your first appointment is all about fact finding. I want to find out everything I can about you so I can understand your health complaints in as much detail as possible. Together we will discuss your health history, and I will try to understand your health goals in detail. I typically refer patients for extra testing and assessments to be conducted at this point. You will be prescribed medications to help ease any current acute symptoms.

Second appointment – Testing: 30 minutes
I don’t like working in the dark with my patients. I want to have measurable data so I know what is going on, you are clear why I
make the recommendations I make, and so we can measure your ongoing progress! So this appointment is all about using the latest health screening technology to give us an immediate picture of your health at a cellular level. For more information on the tests I use please go to specialist testing.

Third appointment – Your Treatment Plan: 60 minutes
Once I have all the results of your tests, I am able to fine tune a treatment plan specifically for you, taking into account your whole health and lifestyle.

You will be given a Report of Findings with the results of your testing and assessments in detail, and will gain a clear understanding of your current state of health – probably for the first time in your life!

We’ll talk about what’s happening with your health – what’s going wrong, how we are going to fix it and how long I expect that to take. This session is where treatment truly begins and you begin to take your first few steps towards a greater level of health and wellbeing.

Your health care plan may include:

  • Simple diet and lifestyle changes
Plus non-invasive, safe, supportive therapies such:
  • Herbal medicines
  • Homeopathic remedies
  • Flower essences
  • Vitamin and or mineral supplements
  • Food as therapy.

Follow up appointments
Your follow up appointments from this point are entirely dependent on your presenting health complaint, its duration and identified roadblocks to health. Often they will be 30 minute consultations every fortnight in the initial stages, and then monthly consultations until your health has stabilised.

How long will it take to get results?
Treatment results very much depend on what’s going on for you. Some people get quick results while others take several months or longer. As a general rule, the longer you’ve had the problem, the longer you’ll need treatment. It’s important to remember that the healing process takes time. Our process is not trying to simply alleviate your symptoms – it is designed to bring you to a greater level of long-lasting health and vitality.
