Endometriosis Endometriosis

Heavy Bleeding, Endometriosis and period pain are the three most common gynaecological problems amongst Australia women.

You may have endometriosis if you:

  • Experience debilitating menstrual pain
  • Have fertility problems
  • Have heavy bleeding
  • Spot for a few days before your period every month
  • Experience painful intercourse

Symptoms can be severe and very hard to live with, causing disruption to your life every time you have your period.

They can also cause heartache for couples trying to conceive, as endometriosis can cause infertility.

Endometriosis has many causes, and all these need to be addressed if treatment is to succeed.

So what is it?

Endometriosis is the growth of endometrial tissue outside of the uterus. In other words, menstrual tissue, which should only ever be in the uterus, implants in all sorts of other parts of the body. These cells may appear on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bowel, bladder, or even the nose and respiratory passages.

Every month these cells respond to the cyclic hormonal changes, shedding and bleeding.    This causes pain and inflammation.
